Oxford/Blenheim

We are staying in Stow on the Wold in June for 2 nights then headed to Bath. We have plans to hike on the afternoon of our arrival, hike the second day and on the third were considering renting a car, driving to a few more villages and heading to Oxford spending the night by the Blenheim Castle. Next day see Blenheim, Stonehenge, Avebury, Salisbury and to Bath for the night and turning in car.....Is this crazy or would you recommend dropping one of these ideas? Our first trip and I am open to suggestions. Thanks

Your choices for the third day are all excellent. however this is too much to cram into one day. I would suggest hiring the car for two days. One day you can do Oxford and Blenheim (Woodstock the village right outside Blenheim has a very scenic main street with some very olde worlde coaching inns/hotels- definitely worth seeing. This will easily be a full day The next day you can go southish and do Salisbury, Stonehenge and Avebury. Another full day. I would consider doing Salisbury last and train from Salisbury to bath (easy ride) if you must do Bath. It may be possible to squeeze Blenheim in with Salisbury/Stonehenge/Avebury and drop oxford if your time is tight- but that wouldnt do justice to any of these

Thank you so much. I think 2 days sounds better. Any experience with renting a car from either Moreton-in-Marsh or Oxford one way to Salisbury?

If you don't mind, where are you staying in Stow on the wold? I'm considering a similar trip and would like to know your suggestions. Thanks! Suzanne

I usually rent closer to London- Reading or Guildford. However i would expect you will have more choice at any known name in Oxford (I recommend reserving an automatic).. you especially need to find a company big enough to allow you to drop off at a different location. moreton is a much smaller town with fewer choices i am sure others will have numerous recommendations

We are staying at the Cross Keys Cottage, because they had openings the nights we needed and emailed a response to my inquiry. We have difficulty calling so I prefer making first contacts by email or on their websites.
