Overnight in King Cross Station London

I am planning to stay overnight in King Cross Station. Is the station still open and it is safe there ?
Or should I rent a room ...

I'll maximize my day traveling in London and I plan to store my luggage there before I catch my flight in Heathrow the next day.

Have anyone try the shower there ? Any comment

Guys, thanks for the info. Yes I think it is better to be in a secure place - hostel. I'll look for it :)

I agree with the others that staying in a hostel would be better than hanging out at King's Cross. However, if you do decide to spend the night in a train station, St. Pancras International (next door) would be a much better choice than King's Cross. It's been refurbished to accommodate the Eurostar to London and Brussels. Take the Piccadilly line directly from King's Cross/St Pancras to Heathrow.

Its pretty noisy, dirty and has unscrupulous people milling about at all hours. I also think the police would "move you along". Why not just stay in an Easyhotel for like 25 pounds ($41)? www.easyhotel.com.
If you stay at the Paddington one, you can catch the Heathrow connect out of Paddington to Heathrow.

There are lots of hostels in the neighborhood where you can stay for as little as 16 to 18 GBP (under 20 Euro) per night for a bed in a dorm room.

As long as there is no Tube strike, you could also think about staying in a hostel in any part of the city where you can connect easily to the Piccadilly line that goes to Heathrow. The Tube takes a bit longer, but it is cheaper than Heathrow Connect if money is a concern.

You have to pay to leave your bag with the left luggage office at Kings Cross, and you have to pay for the showers and toilets there. Why not just pay a little more for the hostel where the bathroom/shower and luggage storage are included and you'll have a real bed with no chance of the police kicking you out?

I still say the easyhotel over a hostel. 25 GBP, private room and shower/loo. Very clean and quiet.

Tami: Where did you find the 25 GBP rate for Easy Hotel near Paddington and when do you have to travel to get that rate? I have to go to London and I'd jump on that rate, but all I come up with for that location is 39 GBP per night for the small room with no windows. Also, EasyHotel charges 5 GBP for using the television in the room. At that point, I can stay in a single ensuite at one of the LSE properties and get a window.

If you arrive late and leave early, then in St. Pancras (right next door, basically the same station complex) hosts a 24-hour Starbucks.

Ceidleh:
I suppose its because I am booking my room in advance for fall, most of them are the 25 GBP rate that far in advance. My apologies. And I never worry about the TV because I just use the room to sleep and shower. When im in London, Im out of the room as much as possible. I can watch TV at home!

But still, 39 GBP is alot cheaper than most other questionable hotels that are probably not as stringently clean and have such good locations as the easyhotel chain.

I looked at school of economics as well but for when im going, they are in session so nothings available.
