Over night trip to Wales

I am leaving for England next week and will be staying with a family friend in Long Itchington which is about 1 1/2 hours northwest of London. We would like to take an over night trip to Wales and we will have access to a car. I am wondering where people recommend to go or anything to keep in mind. This is going to be my first trip to England/Wales. We enjoy everything from history to just exploring beautiful scenery. Everything starts to blur together as I read over the tour guides. Thanks!

This route planner should help you understand the logistics of driving from Warwickshire to places in Wales.

For history try the Norman castles along the coast in North Wales.

For beautiful scenery try the Lleyn Peninsula, also North Wales. Mountains, sea, sandy bays and small fishing villages.

For something a bit quirky try the "village" of Portmeirion (it is actually an hotel!) nearby. Amongst other things, it is famous for being the setting of the 1960s TV series "The Prisoner" starring Patrick McGooghan.
