Orkney Island Day Tour ??

HI

I just wanted to see if anyone has done the John O'Groats Orkney Island Tour. And what your thoughts were on it if you had. We are planning on going 9 Sept with the parents and I think they will enjoy this as they wanted to get to the Orkney Islands and this seems like the best way to do that.

Thanks again as always for your input:)

We did the John O'Groats / Orkney day trip out of Inverness a few years ago. It was a wonderful trip. It is a very long day, but you see a great deal of beautiful scenery on the way up and back. The standing stones and Scara Brae were my favorites of the several places we saw. The Italian Chaple is also very interesting. I felt it was well worth the time and the money.

You may find you love it so much you have to go back for a longer visit someday. It's a wonderful place and if you only have a day, then the tour is the way to go and is worth it. Pam

Bev, I agree with the other replies. We did this trip in 2004 after a family wedding. The buses that pick you up on Orkney are comfortable, the guides knowledgeable, and plenty of time is provided for sightseeing as a group and on your own. It's a bit of a trek from John O'Groats to Orkney, and the seas can be a bit rough (we were on a passenger ferry, not a car ferry). Just look at the horizon to settle your tummy. Upon our return to JOG, we walked up to the Land's End post for a photo op and met two young men who had just arrived by bicycle from Land's End in the southwest. More photos ops. You WILL want to go back. Have great fun.
