optiontown

We are off to Scandanavia this summer. We have reservations (non-cancellable & non-changable)with SAS. My question is if we upgrade with optiontown do we have to pay the $300 "penalty" to SAS?

We did this last summer. Paid $12 to get on the option waiting list. Then three days before our flight, we were given the upgrade, and our credit card was charged (I don't remember, they may charge it at the beginning and then credit it back if you don't get the upgrade.) Then at the airport, the flight was packed with families trying to sit together, and the gate agent moved us up to SAS Business Class (more like first class used to be before the cubical beds). All that for less than $500, not bad and I would do it again the next time we fly. No penalties, and the only possible loss is the $12 we paid to get on the list.
