Opinion Poll...If You Had 2 Days in the London Area

where would you go? My husband and I are thinking about spending 2 days in London/London area before we head back to the US. We'll be flying on a Friday into Stansted from Derry and leaving from Terminal 1 Heathrow on Monday AM. Looking for ideas on how to spend these last days. In London? Kent? Open to all ideas. Thanks in advance.

If you haven't been to London I'd stick with that. British Museum, British Library (don't miss). Both free and near each other. Sir John Soane's Museum for a feel of a Victorian era museum. Victoria and Albert Museum and/or the Science Museum (they are almost next to each other) and Harrod's which is just down the street from the V&A. Stay out at the airport Sunday night and save yourself a hassle in the a.m. on Monday. Hotwire etc. can get you a really reasonable rate at a Heathrow Airport hotel. Be advised the hotel shuttle buses to/from the airport to local hotels are not free. Buy a round trip ticket. 4Pounds each way unless purchased on the bus when it goes up a half pound to 4.5 Check out the Hoppa Bus website for hotels serviced by the Hoppa bus from Terminal One. Print it out and use it as a guide when ing your hotel near the airport. I've stayed at the Sheraton, Ibis, Holiday Inn Express, Holiday Inn and a couple others (ed for price). All were fine. Breakfast at all the hotels was way way expensive. Eat at the airport or get something from the Mark's and Spencer's in I think terminal one.

My must-see list for your visit would be: Tower of London, St. Paul's Cathedral, British Museum, and Westminster Abbey. A stroll by the River Thames, Big Ben, Parliament, and Buckingham Palace would be on the list also. Possibly include the London Eye if you don't mind heights. Take a stroll on the South Bank and tour the Globe Theatre, or go to one of Shakespeare's plays there. If you're interested in the WWII period, see the Churchill Museum & Cabinet War Rooms near Whitehall. You would probably enjoy one of the Hop On Hop Off bus tours around the city, for an overview of the sights. Also, go through previous pages on this forum. A similar question to yours has been asked about a dozen times in the last month, with some really great answers and suggestions by forum members.

I would spend the time in london. Look at the guide books to see what interests you- suggestions above are good. You could probably walk to most of them with minimal use of Tube. if you are "City'd" out, walk through the parks- Hyde park, Regents park and Hampstead, St James and green park. Or a close by London village like Richmond, Windsor, Chiswick walk along the river; Kes Gardens. Should be no need to get out of London itself

Go to Borough Market on Saturday and get a cheese toastie and some excellent baked goods for lunch . Go see a show. Visit Spencer House (only open on Sunday). Take the Sunday evening Chelsea Village pub walk with London Walks. It is easy to find things to do in London.

My husband loves the British War Museum. He talked me into going the last time we were in London and I was surprised I enjoyed seeing it. People have given you lots of great suggestions for other things to do in London. We always try to see a show too. Last time we saw "Wicked".
