One Night in York

We are traveling to York on a Saturday in early July. We only have one night to stay because of my daughter's schedule. Having a hard time finding a place that does not require 2 nights' stay. Does anyone have suggestions? We are ttying to stay close to town so we are accessible to most of the sights. Thanls!

Check the Royal York Hotel. It is attached to the rail station. Easy walk to heart of town. Our favorite restuarant in York is Gert and Henry's. Near the market at the edge of The Shambles, it is in a half-tiomber house. Wonderful food, inculding some traditional English dishes.

Thank you both so much for suggestions. I have an "enquiry" in with Dean Court and will check out the Royal York.

I have the option of a one-night stay at the Royal York or the Hilton in York - any recommendations of one versus the other?

Check out the Monkbar Hotel. It's just across the street from one of the main gates into the old city. Stayed there for two nights last October. Very convenient for walking around the town, but take a cab from the station. Finding things in York is not easy for visitors. Their site says they have rooms available. Ask for a courtyard room to avoid street noise.

Just went to the Monkbar website - they will only book 2 nights if there is a Saturday stay. Back to my choice between Royal York and the Hilton. Thoughts?

I don't know about the Hilton, but I did stay one night at the Royal York. I would recommend the Royal York if for no other reason than that there are Hilton hotels everywhere, but only one Royal York. It is right next to the train station so I would imagine some of the rooms are noisy, but it's historic. The term "royal" isn't used lightly; hotels etc. must have some connection to the royal family. In the case of the Royal York, if I remember correctly, Queen Victoria had stayed there on her way to Scotland. I admit, I didn't know that at the time so when I got off the train in York after a delay which caused me to lose my reservation elsewhere, I headed to the Royal York thinking that a hotel next to the train station couldn't possibly be very expensive. LOL! But it was late so I splurged for one night. Actually it wasn't that expensive for what you get, but definitely out of my budget for the length of time I wanted to stay. Enjoy York, it's beautiful and amazing!

We've stayed there several times. They have a lovely small flower garden. They rooms are nice, and while it may not be cheap, I think it is good value for the cost. Once they gave us a free upgrade to the Presidential suite!!!- 2 bathrooms, a bidet, an office area, King sized bed, etc. But even the "basic" rooms are nice. We travel by train in the UK so it was very convient for us.
