One day trip from London to Dublin and back!

In October I will be in London with 3 others and we are thinking of flying from Gatwick to Dublin for the day (found great prices!) and returning in the evening. Since I haven't done anything like this before, does anyone have advice on must-see sights in the day? Is this do-able for a day trip? Any thoughts or ideas??

Thank you!
Natalie

It's doable, but you'll miss out on one of Dublin's best assets...it's nightlife. You'd be better off staying overnight, or if you're adventurous you could pull an all nighter an take the first flight back to London in the morning;)

Hi Natalie, I agree with Michael ... Dublin is worth an overnight stay if you can manage it.

I have taken a lot of day trips from London for business leaving early in the morning and returning in the evening. I've never taken a day trip by plane from London for pleasure, because I prefer a more leisurely pace, but everyone has their own preferences when travelling. Make sure that you factor in the travel time and cost of getting to and from the airport as well as waiting at the airport. Keep in mind the possibility that your flight might be delayed cutting into your time. If it still seems worth it to you, then go for it.

As far as must-see sights in Dublin, I really enjoyed the walking tour that is done by History students at Trinity College.

If you are not a pub party person I would skip it. There are other more enticing cities to visit ie Brugge in Belgium. my opinion of course.

I agree with JS that there are better trips from London- consider Edinburgh, Cardiff, or York. If you are willing to fly, maybe Inverness or Amsterdam.
