My husband and i will be passing thru Stockholm airport in June and will have a 10 hour layover between 7:45 and 17:45. Is the airport close enough to the city to take a tour? What would you recommend?
You have plenty of time for a tour. There's a frequent non-stop express train between the airport and the city center and the ride is only 20 minutes.
Judy, This will perhaps clarify things for you:

I'd stoll around the Gamla Stan and harbor and have a nice lunch there or along the waterfront. Anything more would tax your schedule and energy.
I'm assuming that you are flying into Arlanda. It is only 20 minutes on the Arlanda Express train from Arlanda to the Central Station. You would definitely have time to come into the City. The Central Station is connected to T-Centralen where you can catch the subway (tunnelbana) one stop to Gamla Stan. Alternatively, if you want to go to visit the Vasa Museum and Skansen, you could take bus #47 from the Central Station. For convenience, you might want to buy a 1 day ticket for SL (buses and subway).
What day are you arriving this could alter your plans. During Midsommar (June 25-26), many places are closed (although Skansen remains open and has celebrations). Similarly, if you are arriving on a Sunday morning, less will be open. Also Princess Victoria is getting married on June 19th.
