Any suggestions on what to do and see in one day in Copenhagen - New Year's, no less. We have an extended layover and want to fit as much as possible. Definitely willing to walk. Thanks!
Greetings
Unfortunately, most museums, restaurants, stores and sites are likely to be closed on New Year's Day - one of the few times museums are actually closed. Tivoli will be closed for the season as well
However, if the weather isn't too cold or wet, it's a nice time to walk around. You could take the train to the main station, and then admire the decorations around the main square before heading down the Strøget (pedestrian street) down to Kongens Nytorv. There you can see Nyhavn, the Royal Theatre etc. and then walk along the water by Amalienborg Palace etc.
For more details of what will be open, you can check www.ctw.dk which puts out detailed monthly listings of events and opening hours in Copenhagen. The December issue will be released (PDF form) in late November.
