Notting hill recommendations

My wife is set on seeing Notting Hill (because of the movie), so I am going along. We're going to go there after having toured BuckHouse, since the back exit of the palace grounds is in the right direction of Notting hill. We'll get to Notting Hill around 5:00 pm. I figured we'd wander around and then have dinner there.

Can anyone help me out with some recommendations on what to "see" and where to eat a good meal (English or Continental cuisine - no Indian please).

Thanks!

I can't go in the morning. Portabello Rd is on Saturday mornings and we don't get to London until 1:00 pm on a Saturday. Need later afternoon recs please; and restaurant suggestions. Thanks for the bookstore recommendation and the BTS tip, though.

It's a pleasant neighborhood, actually, regardless of the movie.

The Travel Book shop in the movie is not a travel book shop, I think its an antique shop.

I did the whole Notting Hill thing on my first trip to London and it was fun, even finding the park where they climbed the fence.

I had lunch on Portobello Road, at a place called Sun in Splendour, it is a cafe/pub and was good food and decent prices (7 pounds a meal). The outside is a bit lavender and has flowers around it.
