Norwegian Rail Question

My husband and I will be traveling by train from Gol, Norway (leaving 1100) to Larvik, Norway on July 31. We need to be in Larvik at least by 1630 to catch the 1730 ferry to Hirtshal, Denmark.
Questions:
1) The train schedule that accomodates our situation the best has three 1-2 minute changes. We are not familiar with the NSB. Can I assume this is doable, since it is offered? If I miss one connection, I miss the ferry to Hirtshals and I have been advised to purchase my ticket in advance.
2) Does the NSB run on time? If late, does one train wait for another to arrive?

Thanks for your help! :)

Dear Ellen,

Are you using the nsb.no site? If you use their journey planner, they should only give you options which will work.

In my experience, I must say that NSB isn't great; many trains are regularly slightly late.

Ellen - I certainly would not class the NSB with the Swiss Train system or anything of that nature. It certainly has some element of lateness to it that would worry me. The one time I was up there I had a train that ran 3 hours late and I missed a plane as a result. Maybe a one off - I don't know.
