Hi, I'll be on a cruise in Norway in May, and I don't like the cost/crowds/etc. of excursions. Any suggestions for these port stops? We have about 8 hours in each, and I've never been to Norway - we're excited to see all we can, and are interested in everything (history, outdoors, cultural interests, etc). Thanks!!

For Bergen, walk or taxi over to the Bryggen area, walk about and enjoy the ambience. Take the little cable / funicular train up to the top of the mountain.........For Geiranger, there isn't much there. The town is very small and full of troll statues.......The attraction is the gorgeous fjord with its multiple waterfalls. There is, however, an excellent shop selling quality Norwegian items, including Norwegian sweaters. They have a rack with "last year's designs" at slightly more reasonable prices. The sweaters run $200 plus but they last forever.

Alesund is also small and easy to walk around on your own. Bergen is a wonderful town. I highly recommend the Hanseatic Museum is you are interested in history.
