Norway mid May

My husband and I have 7 nights; our Norway journey will start after a meeting in Gothenburg mid day Saturday and end with an early flight out of Oslo the next Saturday. We don't need to "see" the cities. We are interested in spending time (hiking and/or biking day trips) on the Sognefjord and are looking at one to two night stays in Flam/Aurland or Balestrand. We would also like to hike Pulpit Rock. Is it crazy to fit in the Stavenger trip and the northern trip in one week? Any route suggestions? Stavenger is just so far away that it seems we lose two almost two days just getting there and back. Should we train from Oslo to Stavenger, do our hike (2 nights there, maybe at the hostel in Ryfylke), and somehow get up north to the nutshell area. We don't feel like we have to see Bergen, but that may be our most direct way, by boat or bus (no trains there, correct?). Also, we are mindful of the holiday May 17 and would be pleased to see that festivity in one of the smaller towns. Thanks!!

Thanks for the suggestion, Ron. We have looked at the Hardangerfjord only a little. Can you suggest a few towns there that would be a good stopover for 1-2 nights, with access to hiking and/or biking day trips? Do any others want to chime in on my original post?
THANKS!

Thanks again, Ron. We will likely just spend 2-3 nights each in some of the small villages such as Balestrand or Aurland (or nearby). I appreciate your Oslo suggestions and the KonTiki sounds really interesting.
