Norway in September??

Has anyone been to Norway in September? How was the weather? Too cold? The RS guidebook mentions how some hotels and attractions begin to shut down after August. Did you feel like there was enough open for it to be a good time to visit?

"The RS guidebook mentions how some hotels and attractions begin to shut down after August." If that's what he's writing, I have no idea where he's getting that, and you might want to get another guidebook. I visited Oslo two years ago in September, and I didn't see anything closed at all... well, except the winter sports infrastructure up on the mountain, of course. Even the public pool in Frogner Park was still open, and it was just barely warm enough to swim. Speaking of weather... Oslo has fairly mild weather year round, considering it's northerly latitude. The weather when I visited was about typical for the seasonal average. Lows in the low to mid teens Celsius, highs usually around 20°. Not bathing suit weather, but perfectly pleasent.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I was talking more about the Fjord area and the "Nutshell" route. We are planning on spending the night in Balestrand and in the RS guidebook it mentions some of those hotels and sights begin to close down in September. There is also mentions in the book about the "open air" musuems in Oslo and Lillehamer either not being open or not being fully staffed. I was hoping to find someone who has been there in September to tell me about any of those sights or hotels. Thanks!!

Some of the staffed mountain huts/lodges are seasonal and are only staffed during the late winter season and the summer hiking season. DNT staffed lodges generally are open for the summer late June through early September depending on the area. For specific operational dates check the specific area and hut:

We did the Norway in a Nutshell in September and all was well. Oslo to Bergen. I also used a company called Five Stars of Scandinavia to help with some special travel plans - traveling with 3 Seniors (78-85). The Resistance Museum in Oslo is fantastic.

"The Resistance Museum in Oslo is fantastic." Agree very much. One of the best of the many resistance museums in Europe.

Weather? Too cold? The Norwegians like to say that "There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing".
