Hi everyone!
We are looking at going to Norway at the end of March. This is the only opportunity we have to go to Norway, but I am worried that we will not be able to do much. I really want to see the fjords, but is that even possible in early spring? Thanks for all your help! This travel board is priceless!
Wejust came back from Kirkenes-Bergen on the Hurtigruten coastal boat. The fjords do not seem to take winter holidays, in fact they were lovely and rather magical in the snow.
We just got back from Norway (Oslo and the Rondane National Park area) last Sunday. Based on the snow pack (or lack of) and temperature relative to past trips, you could have an early Spring like holiday. Museums may still be on non-summer schedules but Norway does not stop living because it is not summer. However, if your end of March travel continues into the week before Easter, you could be competing for space with all the Norwegians traveling to the mountains. It also seems like most Norwegians stop working and close shop between Mandy Thursday (or even the late afternoon of the Wednesday preceding) through the Monday after Easter. A good Norwegian meteorological forecast website is: http://www.yr.no/
This site is a joint venture between the Norwegian Met Office and NRK broadcasting corp. The nice thing about the YR.NO site is that you can get forecast for specific tourist locations such as DNT mountain huts/lodges.
Thank you for all your wonderful answers! We have booked our tickets and are headed to Norway next week! I am excited. Thanks again for all your help!
