Norway in a Nutshell

I am working on the itinerary for our trip to Norway next August. Yes I know it is far off, but we will be travelling with my in-laws and the more set the itinerary the better. I am finding the Norway in a Nutshell website very confusing. My thought is that we do the transportation and booking of hotels on our own. How difficult will this be to do? Below is a loose idea of itinerary. I would love any input! Oslo Train from Oslo to Bergen Bergen Boat from Bergen to Balestrand Balestrand Balestrand to Aurland, Aurland to Flam, Flam railway back to Oslo
Oslo Thanks in advance!

Please get a copy of Rick Steves Scandinavia (or, if you're just going to Norway, his Snapshot Norway book) as soon as possible. He has a whole chapter on Norway In A Nutshell, and a second chapter on places near the Nutshell route that make for good extensions. His books have great diagrams of the route, including some deliberately NOT to scale that are easier to understand. He also has all the options for transport, costs, how to buy tickets, etc. - in much more detail than anyone could post on this Helpline. Then, if you still have questions, post them here.

It won't be difficult at all. You can buy the train tix yourself from the Norway rail company, the boat tix from the boat company, and then make your own hotel reservations. But, as Harold points out, getting a copy of the RS guidebook would be helpful; even RS recommends certain folks buy a tour from Fjord Tours. Look at the book and look at the website then decide which is best for you. We did the nutshell in late June and bought train tickets at the Oslo station 2 days before departing, the boat tickets as we went, but made the Balestrand hotel reservation before we left home. Let us know if you have more questions. Good luck.
