Hello! We are cruising the Norway fjords in a couple of weeks and stopping in 5 or 6 towns along the way - Flam, Geiranger, Stavanger, Bergen, and Hellsylt. We have opted not to do any of the shore excursions, since they are very expensive and mostly involve bus tours. I am looking for info on where the cruise ship docks - namely, how far is it into town, is it walkable, or is there public transportation?
The last cruise we took did not offer you any help whatsoever for getting into town...they want you to be a slave the thier own excursions I suppose.
I've done some web research and from what I've read, most ports are pretty near to town. If you have specific information, I'd love to hear from you!
Thanks a bunch!

I have never cruised before but I can tell you what I saw from the shore in Bergen and Flam
Flam itself really is a tourist depot. A huge cruise ship was parked basically a couple 100 yards from where all the express boats docked.
In bergen the ships were a little further out from the town center. Probably a 15-20 minute walk. Plenty of public transportation around though.
Hopefully that gives you something in case no one else offers information
In Bergen its about 1.5 km to the town center from the cruise ship docks, little hilly, not bad. http://www.visitbergen.com/pdf/CruiseMap.pdf
Flåm is just a spot on the fjord, not much to see.
Geiranger is all walkable, walk up to the Union Hotel for a nice view.
Stavanger is a large shipping port, not sure where the big cruise ships come in but if near the commuter boats, it has good access to the city by bus or a longer walk.
