Norway Ferry delays

Are the Norway Fjord1 ferries ever delayed? How often?

We are taking the ferry from Balestrand to Gudvangen and want to know how close I dare book our train tickets to head on to Oslo. Ferry is scheduled to arrive at 2:30. There is a 4:05 and a 5:25 Flam train and it is a 20 minute taxi ride from Gudvangen to Flam.

I would prefer to catch the 4:05 train which will get us connected to the train arriving Oslo at 10:32. But I'm not sure what the risk is of missing this train. The later train arrives in Oslo at 11:46.

I would be surprised if you encountered any ferry delays. The ferry goes back and forth all day, stopping at one town on the south shore and then Balestrand and another nearby town on the north shore. Sognefjord is only a mile or so across. It does take about ten minutes or so to get all the cars off the ferry; sometimes they make the foot passengers wait until all the cars exit (safety concerns). We did the same route a couple of years ago.

We decided to play it safe and booked the later train leaving Myrdal.
