Hi - will be in Balestrand are in Songfjord a couple days. Wondered if anyone thought the hgher prices for the famous big Kvikne hotel was worth it - or if its better to just eat their famous buffet but stay at the Family run Balestrand near by (a bit cheaper even with Fjord rooms!)? thanks!

The Balestrand Hotel is a tad more intimate in my opinion. The rooms are comfortable and it is worth paying a tad more for a fjord view. They have a big living room/lounge area and the entire staff is very friendly and helpful.
The Kviknes is beautiful, historic and right on the water, but the buffet is open to anyone not just guests.
Bottom line - the view is roughly the same from either hotel. It's your money, but Norway is expensive enough. I'd say save it on the room and splurge for the buffet.

Thanks Sonja! I will do just that - my discusions and emails with the Balestrand were son nice - im sure the stay will be great! I was able to email and then call one of the owners directly for a reservation - as she lives in California during the winter before returning to Norway. She was very nice and offered great advice - Im sure it will be a great stay! thanks much for your help! Unnie-Marie also said to say "Hello to Sonja"!
