Northern Wales

Looking to drive through N. Wales in 2011. Any suggestions for B&Bs, sights not to miss, etc?

I'm a castle fiend - Caernarfon, Beaumaris, Conwy. I loved northern Wales when I visited a year ago, the people, the food, the landscape... lovely.

Edward I castles are the reason to tour North Wales. Be sure to climb every tower & walk every wall! Betwsycoed is beautiful location for woods, streams & fairies...lots of B & Bs. Old-timey beach resort towns on north coast have tons of B & Bs.

We are going in 2011 as well, first time! I have seen a slate mine that looks like fun.

We did a timeshare trade and stayed at a wonderful place close to Rhyl and Prestatyn. We used it as a base and went out and back each day. Lovely area, but you really need a car to see the area.

I recommend Portmeirion, Caernarfon, Snowdonia National Park, Betwsycoed. Look up Offa's Dyke; I can't recall exactly where, but we stayed in a B&B near a portion of the dyke and took a walk along it.

Haven't been there in years, but I remember the small town of Llangolen near Chester being very nice. Chester itself across the border is also very nice - would love to go back. Cheers!

kpf's post reminded me that it was near Llangollen where we walked on Offa's Dyke. Can't recall the B&B, but it was years ago anyway.
