We are making our third trip to London. We have stayed near Victoria station and in Kensington, but this time we are staying with friends near Highgate. Do you have recommendations for shopping, simple eating out(pub food??), sights, etc? We'll be on our own for lunch and dinner. Also, any recommendations for "off the beaten track" things to see in general (we'll have an oyster card)- we've done the "biggies".
If you are staying with friends why don't you ask them for advice. They should know the area better than readers of this page.

Highgate Cemetery is interesting. It's worth doing one of their tours

Little Venice and the Canal Museum are also worth a visit

Have a good trip.

Yes, Carl, I wanted to go there too. I've heard it is amazing, and not too long a trip from central London. Good advice!
If you haven't seen it,
I suggest you visit the Royal Air Force Museum
at Hendon a few miles north of London.
Even if you are not an airplane fan, you will be amazed at the variety of ancient aircraft on display. I am looking forward to returning one day.
I love Highgate Cemetery. The "new" section charges a small entry fee but the "old" section requires a reservation. Only 15 or so people are allowed on a guided tour every day. It's lovely. Again, I reccommend the Tower Bridge tour if you haven't taken it already. At the end you can walk to the Bramah Tea Museum. Have you been to Greenwich?
