My husband and I will be spending a week in Dublin...partly for business reasons which limits our ability to get out of the city for an overnight excursion into the countryside. We are considering a day trip (bus tour?) to Belfast, Giants Causeway, northern coast, etc. We don't plan to rent a car. Can you recommend any reputable tour companies? We're in our mid-30s and the Paddywagon seems a bit young and wild for us! Many thanks!
I don't know about specific bus tours but a tour of the north coast ,Giants Causeway, Carrick-A-Rede bridge and Belfast is probably too much for a one day tour. Irish rail www.irishrail.ie has a one and two day tour. On the one day tour you see very little of Belfast, just the train station and then leave town. The two day tour includes a day in Belfast.
Check out Over the Top Tours (http://www.overthetoptours.com/). I used them to visit Newgrange/Knowth last summer and thought their shuttle service out of Dublin was great.
You can also take the fast train to Belfast and take a Black Cab tour of the city. The drivers are very knowledgeable and friendly, and give good background about the Troubles.
