If I didnt have time for both and had to choose one or the other, which one would be best.We will be driving from the Cotswolds to Edinburgh. Thanks
Jack: Give us something to go on here, regarding your preferences. For example, which do you like best, castles or lakes? history & nature, or nature without all the history?
I would argue that the Lakes have plenty of all of the above. The Lakes would be more on your way and have loads of history, nature, small towns, walking. I have never been to Wales but have been to the Lkaes, (Ambleside area) several times. You can't beat them!

North Wales by a mile. Tons of history, phenomenal scenery, friendly and helpful people, and affordability. I didn't find the Lake District anywhere near as charming.
Been to both and I personally preferred Wales. With that said, I also love the history of the place. The Lake District is beautiful but you cannot beat all the castles in Wales. You have the hiking in Wales also.
Both are beautiful and wonderful to visit for diff reasons. Lake district for gorgeous scenery mostly and it's along your way. N. Wales is castles, beautiful also but will involve alot more driving. So if you just have 1-3 days select Lake district if you have more days since driving is slow/curvey in N. Wales (country roads and castles to visit) select N. Wales. It is best not to see N. Wales if you are short for time.
