Any suggestions on where to stay in Dublin for 1 night - leaving early next morning for US?
Hi Barbara,
my first trip to Dublin was in 2006 and I stayed at Jury's Christchurch. The hotel wasn't anything special but the location was amazing! Smack dab between Christchurch Cathedral and St. Patrick's Cathedral.
In 2007 I returned to Dublin but this time I was limited on time and needed to be within a short taxi ride from the airport. I wanted someplace a bit special and so I chose the Clontarf Castle Hotel which was amazing! The taxi driver from the airport dropped me off and then asked me when I was returning to the airport. I gave him the info and he met me in front of the hotel on the morning of my departure ready to take me back for my 7am flight. The hotel itself is a mixture of a real castle and a more modern renovation. I found the staff to be very helpful and my room was spotless and very comfortable. The hotel itself is located in a suberb of Dublin called Clontarf which offered a beautiful place to walk next to the river Liffey. I took a stroll out from the hotel to Bull Island where I stopped to chat with a local gentleman who told me that he was sure we would meet again someday. When I wanted to go out to Malahide and into Dublin I walked to the nearest DART station which my taxi driver pointed out to me on the way to the hotel and within minutes I was in the city.
In 2008 I stayed in another suberb of Dublin which had easy access to the airport. The Royal Marine Hotel in Dun Laoghaire which was an upscale hotel and very close to the DART station which takes you into Dublin.
All three hotels were great, in very different locations and accessible to the airport, but out of the three Clontarf Castle hotel was my favorite! Hope this gives you some ideas.

I like Michelle's advice. I LOVE Tripadisor.com! Anyway, we are doing the SAME exact thing as you. We are staying one night before we fly out the next morning, and we decided to stay at the Premier Inn-Dublin Airport for just 69 Euro. Breakfast is also an option there. (You can choose between hot and continental). It was rated #1 out of 8 hotels in the "Swords" area of Dublin on TripAdvisor. We're arriving at 8am the day prior, so we'll want to go into the city that day. Their website says that there are buses every 15 minutes in front of the hotel. Not to mention, they have a free airport shuttle. It was an easy choice for us!
A couple of years ago, I stayed for several nights at the Eliza Lodge. It is in a fantastic location, right on the Liffey river in the middle of the Temple Bar area ... however, because it is in Temple Bar it can be a bit noisy. Check reviews on tripadvisor if you want more info.
Hi Barbara, We are going to Dublin in August and we'll be staying at the O'Callaghan Davenport Hotel. It's within walking distance to most areas and you can take a taxi to the airport. Jurys Christchurch was full when I checked about a month ago. And we decided against the Temple Bar area because it's so noisy, so if you're leaving early you might want to consider a place where you'll get some sleep! I don't know what type of budget you're on, but our room was 123 euros, or about $160 per night. Here is the website: http://www.ocallaghanhotels.com/dublinmain/davenport.aspx
Good luck!
I made a reservation at Clontarf Castle because I felt like I could not wait any longer since we are only a month from the trip. It should be fine. Thanks for your response. Hope all of you have a great trip. Thanks for your help. Barbara
