Nice (but not crazy expensive) hotel near Marble Arch/ Hyde Park?

My parents, 4 yr old daughter & I will be tagging along my husband who's going to attend a conference at a hotel in London's Marble Arch/ Hyde Park area. Could you recommend a nice, modern, friendly & safe hotel in the area that's not outrageously expensive? A bonus would be if it's within walking distance to good restaurants/ cafes, shops & places to visit with kids.

Thank you!

Try the Hilton Metropole about 10 minutes walk from Marble Arch and is one of the cheapest Hilton's - they do family rooms too.
The area here is the Arab district of London, which some US people have a hang up about. If you like Lebanese / Arab food though yiu'll like it.

At Paddington, less than a mile from Marble Arch is the Darlington Hyde Park hotel - its not got all the services you never use at a 4 star but it gets the basics right and as an almost fanatical regular clientelle who would never stay anywhere else.

I love the Georgian Hotel. http://www.georgianhotel-london.co.uk/

It is VERY reasonable, has a great reservations policy, is clean and super friendly, has a lift, and is about equidistant between Regents and Hyde Parks. It isn't "modern," but it is very, very clean (if that's what you're getting at -- not wanting to stay someplace "atmospheric", where "atmosphere" = grungy).

With two parks close by, you can let your 4-year-old run around and blow off energy, and for the adults, there's plenty of shopping, and many restaurants and pubs nearby. And the neighborhood is very safe.

In June of last year we rented a nice apartment for a few days in that section of London (on Inverness Terrace, I think). There was a hotel on that street, but I didn't go in so I can't comment on anything else about it.

I write this, though, to reassure you not to have any hesitation about this being the "Arab part" of London. We never really thought about it and didn't feel out of place. All of London has an international feel, as far as I'm concerned.

The Marriott Marble Arch is all of the above, except for the price. Watch their deals or sign up for their e-mails and you may find something affordable. It definitely fluctuates.
