NFL bar

Looking to watch the Patriots play while I'm in London. Any suggestions of bars that would play the game or places where ex-Pats gather?

I know plenty of ex-pat Irish and British guys who have moved to the US, don't want to "pretend they are back home" and absolutely MUST find their footie match on TV of a weekend. Sometimes, you have just GOT to watch the "big game" - whichever side of the pond you're from, and whatever sport it is! :D Also, even though I am not a fan of American football, I think it would be a hoot to watch a game on TV in a London pub. There's a Hard Rock Cafe at 150 Old Park Lane... might be touristy/cheesy, but I bet it will have TVs with NFL games playing. Phone number is +44 20 7514 1700.

I find this amusing, many people on this site go to extreme lengths to maxamize their site seeing time, can't waste a minute. And here you are proposing to sit in front of a TV for hours just like at home and in London! I'm shocked absolutely shocked. Well good for you, I hope you find your pub and have a great time.

This conversation reminded me of my very first trip abroad. It was my Junior year of college and I was travelling as part of a Jan-term study group of 12 or so other students from my college. A couple of the guys in the group were desperate to watch the Super Bowl. We happened to be in Antwerp the night it was to be played. The guys in the group spent all day running around Antwerp trying to find a bar that would be showing the game live (this was in the late 90's before this info would be on the internet). They finally found a place and a group of about 8 or so of us stayed up until midnight-1am when the game would start, and watched it at an Irish themed bar, owned by a Canadian with a very, very, very drunk Scotsman who couldn't stay up on his bar stool. We had a lot of fun that night. There were a few other Belgians in the place, but not many. I would definitely say it was one of the best times I've had while traveling. Good luck finding the game! :)

Thank you to all who had legitimate and helpful responses, your suggestions were much appreciated. In response to others, I'm well aware of the difference between American football and soccer. Furthermore, I'm not sure how "shocked absolutely shocked" anyone should be about not being out sightseeing (not spelled "site seeing") at 10 o'clock in the evening, as that is what time the game would be played over there. Who's to say taking in the local culture at a pub is not an enjoyable way to spend the evening, despite an American sports game being played on the TV?

I'm with you, Vanessa. And you could probably meet locals/English people who may ask questions about the rules of American football. I've never understood why people care how others choose to spend THEIR vacations... After all, you're the one paying for it! Enjoy your trip AND your football game.

Vanessa, I go to see sites and have sight to see. I also spell colour, humour, tyre and many other words differently than you. " shocked absolutely shocked " is sarcasm . You really should try to read and understand all of a post before commenting. Enjoy your holiday.

We are Green Bay Packers fans and were delighted to come back to our hotel room after a long day of sightseeing and dinner to find the Packer game on TV in London of all places. Would not have been able to watch it if at home, and a good way to wind down into slumber. Hey, maybe it will be on TV. Check out that option unless you want to go out.
When you get there, start asking around. Ask your hotel staff, waiters, etc. They may be able to help you out as well.

I would not worry to much about finding the game. Two years ago at Christmas week we found ourselves in Cashel, Ireland. Not a big place and to our amazement on a Sunday evening at the Pub asked if they had a tv that we could see American football. The gentleman behind the bar looked on a tv in the back and found on SKY two games back to back and as I was in a Fantasy Football league playing for my Championship I was most astounded to find it on. Like some stated here, it was a novelty for a few guys in the bar and it started a few conversations and new found friendships. At closing time, they closed the doors and locked it but the guys went and brought us back fish and chips we ate drank more and taught these gentleman the rules and had a great Irish (American Football ) experience . So yes you should easily find a game on somewhere in London not to worry.!! Have a great day seeing the sights and finish it off with your game. No telling how many new friends you'll meet!!

Hi Vanessa, When I first read Peter's initial post, I noticed no offense toward you. I think that he was just commenting on others past opinions, not judging you for your choice. This is why e-mails, etc. are tough ways to communicate. I hope that you found your game, and had a blast (I hope it wasn't one of your last two, though...)!
Incidentally, I've meandered through London's streets and parks at 10pm and had a magical time. Try it out on one of your non-game nights. Enjoy the rest of your trip!
