My husband and I are traveling to Ireland in mid-March. We fly into Dublin. We want to take in at least a couple of places outside of Dublin, and would prefer that at least one of them be a small village. Our initial plan was to stay in Kinsale, but our research makes us think that we may not be visiting at a time when Kinsale is a good choice. Is there a different place we should try, or should we stick to the larger areas like Cork City or perhaps Galway? Help! We have been reading travel books, looking online, etc.,
Even though it's on the other side of the island, I suspect most people will suggest Dingle.
My wife and I really enjoyed Kinsale when we were there in September. I think that there is no wrong time to visit. We also enjoyed Kilkenny and had a great time with the locals in the pub watching the hurling finals.(Kilkenny vs Tipperary)
That is great information. We are concerned that many of the pubs and shops in Kinsale would be closed, but perhaps our concern is unwarranted? Also, we are a bit limited on time, so as between Dingle, Cork City, Galway and Kilkenny, which one or two are absolute "do not miss" spots in March?
Kinsale is a town that relies on tourism for its well being. Although a few of the B&B's may be closed during the winter you can pretty much be guaranteed that the pubs and shops will be open. Pubs are closed around Easter and Christmas but that is about the only time.
