Need economic lodging in London

Hi all - We have traveled relatively well all through Europe but have always been intimidated by the prices in London. Of course since we have never been that is exactly where our daughter wants to go for her senior trip. I would be appreciative on any economic lodging guidance in London or immediate outskirts. It will be us, our 18 yr. old daughter and her best friend. We would prefer two rooms, en suite bathroom if possible - not a deal breaker, in a safe area. Many thanks to all who contribute to this site! Michelle

Michelle, people here can help you if you give a definition of "economic". That is, what is your budget?

Michelle, everyone's idea of "economical" can differ considerably, expecially when it comes to an expensive place like London. That said, we have a place we like and have stayed with our daughters, in two separate ensuite rooms, and it was perfect. It is the Sanctuary House Hotel, in a very safe, pleasant and convenient location near Westminister Bridge, toward St. James Park. It is an easy walk from there to many points in London (we never use the Tube). Weekend rates are quite affordable, at 120 pounds for a double room with breakfast for Friday and Saturday nights, and 85 poinds for Sunday.

Kings College of London also rents out dorm rooms during the summer, check out their website. The prices are truly economical, they have several locations near tube or bus, bathrooms can be en suite. They have shared kitchen facilities but no dishes. The one I'm considering has a grocery store nearby and I plan to pick up a mug, etc. for the microwave there.

Try Rhodes Hotel near Paddington Station and Luna and Simone Hotel near Victoria Station.

I second Luna Simone. I'm paying 100 GBP per night for a double and that includes breakfast. I do have to show Rick's book to get that rate. It's very close to Victoria Station and I booked it based on suggestions from this board.

ck www.travelodgeuk.com. Remember many museums are free in London and that saves alot perhaps you could alot those funds toward lodging. I like Garden Court Hotel that includes brfast and share bath works fine and saves alot of GBP's. It is nr Kenington Palace so you can walk to alot of sights and save money by not using the tube.

There's also a few budget hotels/ B&B's on Gower Street, such as the Ridgemount, Arran House Hotel, Arosfa Hotel. The Luna & Simone is a safe bet.

I agree with some of the previous posters - just came back from London and stayed at Luna Simone - absolutely wonderful experience! 100 pounds per night if you pay in cash, breakfast included, super clean rooms, really great staff. We never felt unsafe, even at night (and early in the morning when we had to walk to Victoria to catch the Gatwick Express). You are within a short walking distance to both Pimlico and Victoria Station. When we return, we plan to stay there again!

Hi Michelle. We four are just back from a week in London at the Harlingford Hotel in London and located near Russell Square and the Russell Square Hotel (good for booking day long bus tours). The Harlingford is a spotlessly clean family hotel with all kinds of different rooms available. A large breakfast is complimentary every morning too! No elevators or face cloths....but that's common in Europe. We mostly used our oyster cards for the bus and tube and went every place we wished (carrying an umbrella of course). Dress warmly...it is fall there.....that is if you are going now. All Best, Mollie

We stayed in a wonderful apt right in Leicester Square. The owner is an interior designer so the apt is beautiful and functional. Owner very friendly and very helpful whenever needed. Check out holiday-rentals.co.uk Property ID 430330 This will be my choice in London whenever I can get back. The location is so convenient to so many sites - so easy to walk to many places.

you didn't say how long you intended to stay in London, but I would suggest, if you are staying at least 5 days you should look into booking a two room flat/apartment....much less expensive than getting two inexpensive hotel rooms. www.vrbo.com is a good place to start looking. Bill

Michelle, you might have a look at * www.cartrefhouse.co.uk * for one suggestion. It's located in the Victoria Station area, in a nice neighborhood. The rooms are not luxurious, but very comfortable, and the owners are wonderful. Cheers!
