Movie :

When I visited England, several years ago, I perceived : English people are fond of their memory of Queen Victoria. If you will be at England, in your conversation with English people you could say : Did you see the film (cinema) "The Young Victoria" (made in the year 2009). If they say "Yes", you could say : "What did you think of it ?". I saw that movie, twice. It depicts the personal life of Queen Victoria, during the years 1837 to approximately 1841 or 1842 (?). I like that movie, it does not have any disturbing scene. A professional critic of movies said : That movie is "Trite". I think it is "Trite" because the talking about the young Victoria's circumstances, said by men employed in the British government, is plain language that can easily be understood by young people, age 12 and 13. Perhaps the audience that is intended for that movie is people age 12 and 13 (?). And the movie critic said : That movie is "contrived". I think : when they make a movie about a queen in the year 1837, I do not know how the movie could not look contrived.

I enjoyed the film. A few parts are not historically accurate, however I enjoyed the scenery, actors, and thought it was well made.

I often do not agree with critics at all. They are generally only fond of artsy, dark films that are frankly depressing. I like comedies and something that is fun. Dark brooding dramas have their place, but I'll spend my money on something that leaves me feeling good.

There was another film a few years back about Queen Victoria. It was rather enjoyable. I was lucky enough to have on the play list for British Airways on the way to London. I believe that Sarah "Fergie" Ferguson had something to do with the new film. With royal connectons, I wonder if filming was actually on location or on movie set.

Wild guess is that the royal family would see no need to open up their houses to a movie company.

This is why I sit thru all the credits at the end of movies. Often, the very last credit tells where the movie was made. Usually interiors are made on sound stages. Annette Crosbie played a young Victoria in a film some years back; I'll be interested to compare the two films. One thing I remember about V.R. is that she had 5 childred in the first 7 years of her marriage. And she didn't like babies. Good thing they were able to afford "help."
