I assume you mean the Cliffs of Moher? The roads are N highways (major roads) all the way from Westport to Ennis. N5, to N60, to N17, to N18 takes you right to Ennis. To get to the Cliffs, though, once you get ot Galway, you'll head west along the coast. Those roads are smaller but still good, and the traffic is less.

Yes, I did mean Cliffs! Thank you, We will do just that. We will be in no hurry to reach Ennis, so a coast drive will be perfect.

I'm aware of that, Laurel, but they were traveling from Westport to Ennis, so I assumed (correctly, it turns out) that she didn't mean them. The Cliffs of Moher are much more of a tourist draw than the Mountains of Mourne, and someone traveling through that area would be more likely to be headed to the Cliffs.

Yes Nancy I am also aware of the location of the Cliffs Of Moher and I wasn't challenging your information. I was only commenting, to Linda, that she was not out in left field in confusing the two names. But thanks for the geography lesson.

Hiya Linda! So your heading from Westport to Ennis sounds Grand! Westport is SO beautiful. Now what ya want to be doing... is get on the N5 southeast and when you get to Partry you will meet up with the N84 into Ballinrobe take the R332 which will run right into Taum (pronouced: Chewm ... don't you just love the irish language) take the N17 south to Claregalway to the N18 south. I've done this myself.

There is a song from some lads from Taum called the "Saw Doctors" that goes..."NNNNNNNNNNN17 stone walls and the grasses green... take a left at Claregalway I felt the lump in my throat..." I always think of this song when I am on N17/N18...especially heading to Shannon to head back to US. Makes me want to be in Ireland just humming that song right now.

Okay... let me get back on track. Now you can either head straight down the N18 to Ennis or you can take the Coast Road to the Cliffs of Moher off of N18 take N67 and just follow the signs OR you can head to Ennis and take the N85 to the R460 to Milltown-Malbay and take the Coast Road Up to the Cliffs. If you are going in the summer remember daylight is extended... I love it!

I love Ennis since it is the capital town of County Clare, however, just an FYI about Ennis. Avoid Ennis at rush hour in morning and afternoon. The lights are slow and the traffic can be heavy.

I would spend the day travelling from Westport thru Galway, Coole Park and Thor Ballylee near Gort and head to Ennis and try to do the Cliffs the next day. That way you can spend the day travelling all over the Burren to the Cliffs, Dolman, Ailwee Caves etc..

Can you tell I'm a yaker?

have fun!
