We have thought about renting a BMW touring bike in Aberdeen and traveling to Nairn, Loch Ness, etc. We will be traveling in July. Is this a good idea? Hints?
Toss a coin on rain or not.
If you don't have a lot of time driving on the left, a motorcycle is probably not the way to start. The sudden swerves and lurches when you invariably aim at the wrong lane in an intersecion could pretty much ruin your day.
From the standpoint of the roads themselves, you'd probably love it. The roads between Nair and Loch Ness are two lane, if you get even slightly off the beaten path, you're on single track roads, which I find solve the left hand drive issue. I've only driven a moped, so I can't really speak to the issues of a motorcycle, but I drive a car with standard shift with no problem.
BTW look for Iain Banks book Raw Spirit. It's not just about whisky, but also about the wee roads.
