In all my trips to London, I've never gone up to the top of the Monument. Does anyone know how many minutes/hours I should set aside for going to the top?
I haven't done it in years and with 345 stairs it hurts me just to think about it. I do know that in all the times I have been there, whether I went up or not, I have never seen a long line of people waiting to go up. It will all depend on how fit you are. I'm thinking an hour all together.
Thanks, Laurel. I used to be fit, but not so much now! I may content myself with going to the top of St Paul's!
It hardly takes any time at all. I spent much more time at the top taking pictures, and took my favourite picture of London. Really, I don't even think it took 10-15 minutes to get up to the top. Even with rest stops inside the windows, I wouldn't expect more than 20 up, and less coming down. On a clear weather day, it's a lovely, lovely view. I highly recommend it, as long as you don't have problems with claustrophobia. I have issues with heights, but was still fine. I was in reasonable shape after a few weeks of walking all around London, but not in any more shape than that brought!
Thanks!! Good to know. We were planning to do it the day we arrive, and I was a bit afraid I'd be too jet lagged.
here arent many (any) people there normally- its not next to any other tourist site. Get there, climb up (10-15 minutes at a guess). Look around, climb down. Probably total 30-40 minutes. Worth dong once
Thanks!!
My sister and I did it decades ago and I agree it doesn't take long. I remember enjoying it, but sister later told me that she was uncomfortable at the top. I don't remember that the guard rail was low, but it might have been, as the UK used to be less obsessive about these types of things. I do remember how low the wall was on the Wallace Monument and it definitely made me uneasy! Pam
