Minors Allowed in Pubs?

We are traveling to London for the first time this summer and have been told that "pub lunches" are an economical and tasty way to go. We have two children, ages 9 and 13--do they allow minors in pubs??

You arent going to find many pubs in London with gardens and swings.... out in the country maybe We have occassionally gone into pubs (even in London) which were uncomfortably boisterous and loud. We dont stay, just find another one nearby

A lot of British pubs are "family friendly" and will have a dining area where you will be welcomed. A good pointer is to look for a garden with swings etc. Ask at your hotel for local recommendations .... there will certainly be one nearby.

Go to fancyapint to find good pubs in the areas you'll be visiting that welcome children.

We ate at The Counting house Pub in London a couple o fweeks ago with my children: 16, 14 and 9. The downstairs was crowded and LOUD with tons of men and suits drinking around lunchtime. However, they took us upstairs where it was quiet and just a few people were eating at tables. It was a GREAT meal!! Christine

My daughters were 5 and 7 the first time they went to England, we ate at a lot of pubs. The girls loved eating in the pubs. Have fun.

My experiences in Ireland last year would seem to suggest that kids are ok in the pub. We saw plenty of kids during the day and even into the evening. Of course, the later it got the fewer kids there were.

Some London pubs allow children, some don't. It is up to the landlord and the pub's license. A Wetherspoon pub that we frequented allowed children only if they were having a meal, stayed in the children's section, and were out of the pub by 6 PM. Ask as you enter. You may be denied, you may be sent to an upstairs restaurant, or you and your children may be welcomed.
