My husband and I have purchased tickets to a London Symphony concert held in St. Paul's Cathedral in June. As light packers, we wonder if appropriate dress for this evening includes a sport coat and tie for him. And are there other occasions/ venues in which he would feel uncomfortable not being in coat and tie?
No need for a jacket and tie. At most classical music concerts in London, you might annoy people if you turned up in a filthy T-shirt, cut-offs and flip-flops, but anything better will be fine.
For the heck of it I typed in London Symphony Concert audience in my Google search and clicked on images. Not much but scrolling down I did see one picture. Clicked on it and it took me to richardeinhorn.com. The picture was of a concert this February. Not one coat and tie. Other than the attending the BAFATA'S or having a meeting with the Queen no reason for a coat and tie in London. GREAT city. Have a wonderful time. Don't miss the Sir John C. Ritblatt room at the British Library, check online for St. Bride's on Fleet Street June recital schedule (lovely church) Marvelous Sunday evensong and check out the tea dances at Spitifield's Market.
Enjoy.
Barbara We regularly attend events in London and I haven't owned a tie for years! Your husband should just wear what he feels comfortable in. Enjoy the concert. Alan
Thanks to all of you who replied. My husband is a happy camper on this one!
