I have made three trips to Ireland and have rented a car with automatic transmission each time. I drive my husband's manual transmission truck at home so I'm used to the shifting. Here's my question, and I'm sorry if it sounds dumb. What is the sequence of the gas, brake and clutch on manual transmission cars in Ireland? Thanks for the information.
The feet are the same order as here. Only the shift gear needs your left hand. I've driven manual many times in the UK and if you know how to do here you can do it there. In fact it's fun. ; )
The first trip I took to Britain where I was renting a car (many moons ago), got me all flustered at first.I studied up on rules of the road, traffic circles, getting used to checking in the opposite directions...you name it. Then, halfway across the north Atlantic, the thought hit me..."OMG...what if the pedals are reversed, too???" A bit late with that thought, what? Luckily, that wasn't the case! So don't worry...there's at least one other person out there who's had a similar worry.
Thanks, everyone. It seemed like a dumb question, but one I've never seen addressed. I think I'll probably try a manual transmission on my next trip.
Good choice. You will save 1/2 on your rental fees.
Maybe or maybe not, John. The last time I rented in Ireland I had decided to go with a manual transmission, and then started watching for deals as my trip got closer. I ended up getting an automatic for only 20 euros more for the week than the cost of the manual.
