Manchester to Oban

I have researched a lot about the train route from Manchester Airport station to Oban. I have planned it out several ways, but it's essentially Manchester-Carlisle-Haymarket (Edinburgh)-Glasgow-Oban. Which is ok and all, but I am wondering if there's another more scenic route, since it's gonna take about 7-1/2 hours anyway. Thanks!

consider a bus for the glasgow-oban bit.I've done the trip to Fort William a good few times and its well worth it.The view of Ben Dorain , and you travel right though Glen Coe.As an place to stop , Corrour Station house might be worth a look too.
