manchester and lake district

I'm here for a few days and am looking for recommendations of places to see in Manchester, Liverpool and the Lake District. I saw a nice transcript of Rick Steve's radio broadcast for Vienna and was hoping to find something similar for Manchester or the Lake District. Any help would be appreciated. THANKS!
