luggage storage in heathrow

My sister and I have been living in Rome for 4 months so we have a lot of luggage. On our way back to US we are going to be in the UK for two weeks, so we would like to check our largest bags in the Heathrow luggage storage. We looked on their website and all of the luggage storage desks are in the arrival terminals. When we are going into Heathrow to go back to Chicago will it be feasible for us to go to the luggage check in the arrival terminals and get back to departures (before the security check point) to check the luggage? Will we be allowed to do this?

There is luggage storage at the train stations. Rather than taking it out to Heathrow, why not check it at Paddington Station and pick it up there before boarding the Heathrow Connect or Heathrow Express?

It will cost you a small fortune to store your luggage for an extended period of time at Heathrow or a major train station. Check out Big Yellow Self Storage. Click on "Home storage" and then on "I'm going traveling."

Why not ship the excess luggage back prior to your UK trip? You could ship it from Rome or the UK. Check rates. It might not be viable, but at least you'll know your options. UPS, Fedx, regular postal service, other shipping companies are all possibilities. Also, consider limiting what you bring back as much as possible- donate to charity or give things to friends.

That's exacty what we did. We arrived/departed from T5 and the left luggage is outside the security checkpoints so it wasn't an issue at all. Tim's right though, it will be quite expensive for the 2 week period you leave it there. Back in 2010 we paid 8 pounds per 24 hr period. Just google "left luggage at Heathrow" and you should easily find the info.
