luggage - Air Canada Flight

I'm concerned about my luggage on my flight from Seattle to Toronto, then Toronto to London. I do not want to check my bag. The Air Canada rules say bags must be 9 x 15.5 x 22.5 max size. I have a Rick Steve's convertible carry-on bag. The bags dimensions are 12 x 18 x 20. Slightly larger than Air Canada's requirements. My question is, since I've never flown Air Canada, how strict are they in the measurements. If my bag isn't packed stuffed and there is room to squish it will Air Canada let me carry it on? I took it to Italy with no problem but I'm still worried. I don't want to deal with lost baggage once I get to London. Any input on this would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have taken the RS convertible carry-on on 3 Air Canada flights with no problems. My 1st time on AC my hubby had his RS bag and I had a 22" TravelPro roller bag that I have carried onto countless planes. We were on a Continental flight before we changed to the AC flight. They told me my bag was too big for the AC flight. I carried it on anyway. Don't overpack your lag and it should be fine.

Thank you, that makes me feel better about taking this bag.

I fly Air Canada all the time internationally and around North America. They are not strict with measurements. If it can fit in the overhead compartment ok, then you should have no problems from the staff. Happy flying!

Just returned from Dublin on Air Canada, and as a family of 3, we had too much luggage, and definitely not the right sizes...it wasn't a problem. As the previous poster said, if you can fit it in the compartment above the seats it shouldn't be an issue.

I flew Portland-Toronto-Frankfurt-Milan in late May. Portland to Toronto was Air Canada. Toronto-Frankfurt-Milan was Lufthansa. Due to the multiple, and in one case tight, connections, I did not want to check my bags. I was fine until the I was walking down the jet=way in Toronto to board the flight to Frankfurt. Even though my bag was of carry-on size, an attendant in the jet-way forced me to check it. I was one of the first boarders in coach and there was PLENTY of bin space on the plane. I was not pleased. The bags made it onto my connecting flights but I really could have done without the added stress caused by the (to quote a line from Fargo) "clip-on-tie, piece of S, authority figure" from Lufthansa.
