I'm open to staying at either a hotel or self-catering cottage in Galway. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Why not a B&B/they are great in Ireland/reasonable and more intimate than hotel.
If you will consider a B&B, I can recommend the Griffin Lodge on Father Griffin Street, about a 5 minute stroll to the main pedestrian shopping area of Galway. Friendly, kindly hosts and delicious breakfasts. Reasonably priced small but immaculate rooms.
We stayed at the Glenlo Abbey Hotel at the edge of Galway in September. Beautiful place overlooking a golf course. There is a restaurant there that is in railway cars from the original Orient Express. It was a short ride from the city. We took a taxi to the city to avoid the HORRIBLE traffic. It took us over an hour to get around Galway to the hotel the evening we arrived. A really neat place to visit is Brigid's Garden, west of Galway on the N59. Another great drive is the Sky Drive out of Clifden.
A very good hotel in Galway is the very-centrally-located Park House. If you stay there, be sure to reserve the B&B package - their breakfast is great. www.parkhousehotel.ie
Thanks, everyone, for your responses. We finally found a self-catering cottage in Spiddal that will be suitable for our needs. Thanks!
