I have the guides for London and GB and could've sworn there was a section of securing long term lets but alas, I can't find it anywhere... Did I dream it or does it exist?? I tried searching the forum but no dice...

Don't have my guides now, so maybe someone else can answer. But if you need to find a long term rental try SabbaticalHomes.com. They have a number of listings ranging from a private room in someone's home, flat shares with a roommate, flat rentals for just yourself, and whole house rentals for families.
