We will be traveling from London to York (day trip) then that evening heading to Edinburgh. Should i wait to buy tickets when i get to London or buy now? I am just wondering if they might be able to get me tickets from London to Edinburgh with a stop in York, without having to buy that leg of the trip. for example, i have to buy London to York, then York to Edinburgh, can they get around that?
thanks!
Megan - I would think that you would have to buy 2 tickets, but hopefully Nigel or Tim will see this post and respond. I have found that it is cheaper to buy in advance, if you know your travel dates. If you book a few days in advance fares can be as low as£68per person. If you purchase your tickets far enough in advance fares can be as low as £36per person.
If you buy a full fare anytime ticket for London-Edinburgh, you can get off in York and continue on to Edinburgh on any train that same day. However, you will pay dearly to do this (£152.00). It will be far better to buy discount fare tickets for each leg (London-York and York-Edinburgh). You will be restricted to specific departure times, but the fares can be as low as £13.50 for London-York and £17.00 for York-Edinburgh. Book both legs at www.eastcoast.co.uk. Discount fares are posted about 12 weeks in advance. The lowest ones sell quickly so book ASAP.
Thanks for the shout out, Joel. Tim's got it. He said what I would have said. Far better, if possible, to get two cheap ones than one which would allow a stop.
