Today's newspaper mentioned two lengthy "Tube" labor strikes scheduled (threatened?) for London in September, the first for Sept 3-6. Travel around London certainly would be affected during such strikes.
It's going to be a 72 hour strike. We were in London once during a 48 hour strike, it wasn't to bad. Just had to change the route you wanted to take.
Robin probably knows best but we've arrived to find an entire area of the tube shut down and switched to bus. It is a bit slower but actually was a nice change. The maps that are offered at the TIs are great for figuring out the bus system.
Here is a website for info on the strike~~

As of a few minutes ago Jubilee Line has severe delays, Northern Line good service, Piccadilly Line part suspended. The rest of the lines are suspended.
Hi Linda, all strikes are different. Sometimes all the lines are closed and at other times there are a few that are open. As of this morning there are three or four lines operating. So one never knows whats going to happen during a strike.
Yesterday I was on a website for Heathrow Connect Rail service and linked to the website for the London Underground (the Tube). Apparently the union involved in the strike does not work on all the lines, so it may be a matter of getting the latest info and choosing the right line in order to travel around the strike. I would expect crowded conditions. Might be a good time for walking.
Excuse the vagueness of the previous message. The National Rail website has the info on the Tube strike.
Update on strike:
Circle, East London, H'Smith & City Lines is suspended.
District & Metropolitan Lines is part suspended.
Central Line minor delays.
The rest of the lines have good service.
Strike now called off, though some lines are still experiencing delays. You can get the latest travel news on both public transport and traffic jams on roads in England by going on the BBC websites and clicking on the local sites. It's bbb.co.uk
As of 7:15pm London time (2:15 here) four tube lines are still part suspended, Circle Line suspened and Victoria Line has minor delays.
