London Travelcard Question

This should hopefully be an easy one. When purchasing a one-day travelcard in London, do I need to buy it on the day that I am traveling or can I buy it a day or two before?

I'm staying in London for two nights and am arriving on a Saturday. I'd like to buy a one-day travelcard for Saturday and one for Sunday, but it would be easeir to buy them both at the same time on Saturday when I'm at Victoria Station (I assume). Thanks.

If you are buying a paper travel card from the rail station, maybe that works a bit differently than my experience with the Oyster card with a travel card on it.

As far as the Oyster card travel cards day passes, they are each good for 24 hours from the time you buy it. There is no way to buy it for future use. I know because I had a 7 day card and was in Lancashire for 2 days and didnt use it in London but it still ran out on the 7th day. This was a travelcard on an oyster card though.

Yes, you can purchase both travelcards at the same time. Just make sure you specify that you need one for Saturday and one for Sunday. A one-day travelcard for zones 1-2 is £5.60 (on weekends).

Alternatively, you could get an Oyster card and load it with £10-15 if you need to get to Heathrow or travel outside of Zones 1-2. This will require a £3 deposit, however you'll only pay £5.10/day for unlimited travel in zones 1-2.
