Hello, While trying to choose highlights for an itinerary, I've just realized, thanks to the Eurostar, that it's reasonable to include Versailles in my itinerary. What is the best way to fit this in a British holiday? Should I travel to Paris, spend the night, visit Versailles, spend the night, then return to London? Should this be at the beginning or end of my holiday in Britain? I'm open to ideas/suggestions if you feel we should stay longer. (FYI; not interested in sightseeing in Paris at this time with the exception perhaps, of the Eiffel Tower).
To go to Versailles and come back to London in one day is certainly workable, but very tiring. I believe the earliest Eurostar left London around 630am and the last Eurostar to London from Paris left about 830pm. Yes, you could do a day trip and race by the Eiffel Tower on your way back to London.
I would suggest at the minimum that you leave London for Paris on the Euro Star very early in the morning and the catch the RER C train to Versailles. After you have finished your sightseeing, come back to Paris and spend your evening enjoying the Eiffel Tower, a nice dinner and a night at the Grand Hotel Leveque. Get up early the next morning, enjoy a quick walk about the Rue Cler and Eiffel Tower neighborhood and have some French pastry before you catch the Eurostar back to London to catch a late flight out to the States.
