London to Southampton

Need to wake up in London in May and get to Southampton for a 5:00pm cruise. Best options to get there?

Southwest trains run directly from London Waterloo to Southampton Central. If you book a SW train well in advance on rather than on the SW site, you can get a discount fare as low as £1.00. Depart at 11:39 and arrive at 13:15. Or depart at 13:39 and arrive at 15:12.

Either a) take a direct train from London Waterloo to Southampton Central Station (not Soton Airport station), journey time about 80 minutes, and then catch a taxi to your cruise terminal (a variation of this is to go from London Victoria insteead - an hour longer journey but much cheaper advance tickets available). All details at Or
b) book a car service based in Southampton to pick you up and drive you there.

Be sure to go to In addition to getting answers to your question, you can sign up for the "roll call" of others on your sailing, and probably find someone to split a car service ride from London.

There are direct trains to the docks now from northern England and Scotland but not from London - the journey's too short for it to attract enough passengers.
