I'm trying to coordinate my wife's business trip with our joint vacation. She will be in Edinburgh for two weeks and then Spain for three weeks. Her company will pay for her travel costs but not mine. I already have flights (long prior arrangement) that get me across the pond to London and then back across leaving from Madrid. Any suggestions on the available options are to get from London to Edinburgh and from there to Madrid? Is it best done separately with a round trip London-Edinburgh? How hard (i.e. expensive) will it be to transfer between planes and trains? Any other considerations I should be aware of?
Assuming you'll be arriving at Heathrow, your best bet would probably be fly BMI or BA to Edinburgh; should be under $100. But you'll have to leave yourself several hours in between; since this is not a "connecting flight," as far as the airlines are concerned, you'll be out of luck if your original flight from Seattle is late and you miss your flight to Scotland.......From Edinburgh, easyjet and Spanair both fly direct to Madrid (altho Spanair has nothing up past the end of October yet) and that shouldn't be more than about $75. Both are good airlines, but easyjet's equipment is newer.
