I'm checking out the Eurostar trip from St. Pancras to Amsterdam that changes trains in Brussels. I love (!) lace and would love to stop in Brussels for a couple of hours before departing again for Amsterdam. On the train schedules (at least the ones I looked at), we don't have a lot of time between trains. Can that vary? Is there a way to work it so that one may stay a little longer in Brussels before reboarding? Thanks to all!
I've never been to Brussels but Hubs and I were in Bruge 2 years ago (took a train down from Amsterdam) and fell in love with the place.
The lace museum there is a bit tricky to find but very well worth it. There were 9 ladies working the day we were there. They were kind, friendly and didn't mind our questions. You can stand right over their shoulders to watch and they don't get upset. I can't remember if it cost us anything to go in there or not. The articles on display will knock your socks off.
The best strategy is to book tickets from St Pancras to Brussels (via http://www.eurostar.com), and when your done checking out Brussels, take the regular intercity trains to Amsterdam. They run once an hour, fare is about 35 euros, and no advance reservation is needed. Simply purchase your tickets at the station in Brussels when your ready to head to Amsterdam.
