London, things to do?

I'm looking for ideas of things to do. Been there, done that with things to "see," I'd like to "do" some more things. I've got concerts and shows covered, what other things have people done (off the beaten track preferred)? ______ This is for the last week of May 2011. _____ Also, any ideas on smaller sporting events, can't afford Champions League final tickets?

Not entirely sure what you're after... Climb the London Monument to the top, and get a certificate to prove your accomplishment? Take a tour of The Globe?

Check "Whats On" especially at Earls Court and Olympia. We have seen Crufts Dog Show; Show Jumoing; Point to Point races; boat races;Rent a boat on the river; Military tattoos; Easter Harness Horse Parades;Been going to London for many many years and still havent seen it all. Why not try Rugby in the suburbs, minor league soccer- London has teams in a number of leagues; travelling fairs;

The football league season ends at the begining of May (hooray from a football widow!!!) How about a one-day cricket match at Lords cricket ground in St Johns Wood (the spiritual home of cricket) or the Oval ground in South London? The fixture list will be out in November/December. .......................... On a nice spring day, a visit to Hampstead Heath and surrounds?

Try hiking the Thames Path. It starts in London, follows the riverside up to Hampton Court Palace and beyond. Great pubs along the way, with back porches overlooking the river. River view all the way up the path. You can stop at several locations and take river transportation or subway back to the heart of London.

Explore the gaslight district after dark. It's fascinating to see a little bit of how London once was. Better, stay in The Stafford and be there. It's off Green Park near St. James Palace.

Michael, Think about catching a train outside of London. I just got back from a trip and here are a few ideas. Catch a direct train to Stratford upon Avon. Rent a kayak and tour the river. Maybe rent a bike or moped and tour the country side.
